Fender Starcaster S2 Guitar
Learned a hard lesson in paying attention to what is said in a Sunday ad and on the box for that matter.
When I saw the Best Buy ad for what I thought was a Statocaster knock off for 99.00, I thought cool, I'll check it out and add it to my collection. I didn't really read the whole thing. I saw Fender and what I thought was Stratocaster.
So, off I went to get my Stratocaster. Even when I got to the store I didn't read the box closely. Actually, I didn't read it until I got it home and tried to tune it.
The strings that come on the guitar are worthless as with most you buy off the shelf, so I re strung it with some Boomers. After trying for 30 minutes to tune it, I thought what the heck is up and started reading. That's when I discovered that I had indeed bought the Starcaster and not the Stratocaster. It certainly looks like a strat which is how I got suckered into it. That and of course not paying attention.
After fiddling with it for over an hour, I ended up installing the extra spring that came with it on the whammy bar, instead of 2 springs it now had 3. This seemed to make tuning it a whole lot easier.
It takes some fiddling to get it to where you are comfortable with the way it plays. Once your have it set, it plays and sounds as you would expect a $100 guitar to sound. My BC Rich has a much fuller and more powerful sound and really sounds great when using a distortion pedal.
I guess this is all right guitar for a beginner. Nothing I would take to play at a gig, but certainly worth a 100 bucks for just messing around the house with.
It also looks nice and has clean lines.
