HTML is the backbone of web programming. It is what allows you to render your creations in a browser so that others may see it. Without HTML, your web sites would not show up when people visit them.

It is the foundation for all web programming and integrates very well with other programming languages such as PHP or ASP. Out of all the other programming languages it is probably the easiest to learn and implement.
